Omaruru is a small, lively town in central Namibia, known for its relaxed atmosphere, creative arts scene, and fascinating history. Anyone who has ever been here knows that in this cozy little town, the heart of Namibia beats a little slower—and that's precisely what makes it so appealing.
In the morning, the smell of fresh bread fills the air at Café Ongwari, at lunchtime you can pick up the best meat in the region from the nationally renowned Omaruru Slagtery, and in the afternoon you can sit with a coffee under shady trees and watch life go by.
Artists, winemakers, and adventurers have settled here – and anyone who visits the small galleries or the Kristallkellerei winery quickly realizes that Omaruru has style, character, and a lot of soul.

In November 2022, we left our regular lives in Switzerland behind and embarked on an adventure with our expedition vehicle "Ellie." By 2024, we had driven along the west coast of Africa to Namibia with our two children, Sherine & Sam.
Here we have found our very own paradise and would like to share it with you.

Giraffe Bar
Welcome to the favorite place for parents, children and everyone who likes to relax at the end of the day!
Our bar invites you to linger with its special flair and lovely details. The Giraffe Bar is not only a meeting place for our guests, but also a place for good conversation, laughter and new encounters.
After a day of adventure in the great outdoors, you can treat yourself to a little break here: A cool drink on the terrace, a hot chocolate for the little ones, a good coffee or a glass of wine for the grown-ups - whatever you fancy.
Pool
Our beach pool brings the beach feeling directly to you.
Whether you want to swim a few laps, enjoy the sun, or simply relax with a cool drink, you'll find the perfect place here.
The Beach Pool resembles a beach, with the entrance gradually getting deeper. This makes the shallow area ideal for children or as a "martini sit" for adults ;-)
In the evening it is atmospherically lit – ideal for relaxing after an eventful day.
Adventure playground
Lots of fun, exercise and adventure await you on our lovingly designed playground.
Whether you’re looking for high altitude or fast downhill – there’s something for everyone here:
On our large trampoline, children can let off steam and develop their coordination in a playful way.
For little mountaineers, there are climbing elements that require skill and courage – naturally child-friendly and safe.
Zip line – The absolute hit! The zip line takes you speedily through the air – an exciting experience that will make children's eyes light up.
This makes your family holiday completely relaxing – and unforgettable for the children!

A number of ideas have been born around the campfire, including our idea of traveling through Africa in a truck.
So what could be nicer than ending a day in nature with a crackling fire?
Seating, wood, and accessories are available. We're also happy to organize a communal braai.

Fresh vegetables thrive here, grown with love and care. If you're looking for fresh ingredients, you've come to the right place. Sustainable, seasonal, and grown with love.
We usually have tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, peppers, chili peppers , onions and herbs.

We met many people on our journey through Africa but made only a few good friends.
Romy, Mario, Sherine and Sam are definitely among them.
We visited many campsites and accommodations and didn't always enjoy them.
We are all the more excited that the Overlander Place in Omaruru now exists.
Here we are always greeted with open arms and the feeling of coming home.
Romy and Mario have created a feel-good Eldorado that is second to none.
A pitch for overlanders of all sizes with its own outdoor shower, a guesthouse reminiscent of a 5-star hotel and a barbecue and pool area, embedded in the nature and wildlife of Namibia.
We are already looking forward to coming home again - to “Ellie and the Family” in Namibia.

Your overlander site is simply fantastic, with a wonderful pool for cooling off, animal company like Junior, the charming but timid house giraffe, tame duikers searching for food in the warm evening sun, and curious rock hyraxes. So much peace and nature all at once! Thank you for the loving hospitality, the lovely conversations, and the laughter we were able to share with you. We're already looking forward to seeing you again! Because a reunion is definitely coming!

We had a most wonderful two night stay at Ellie and the Family. The family are lovely hosts, we had a real holiday. We had all meals outside, the bar and outside area is very welcoming and integrated into nature. The pool is very inviting, Sammy the Giraffe made an appearance and the feeding through is situated beautifully close to a small outcrop. With a coffee in bed at sunrise, we were gazing at all the wildlife: kudus, warthogs, diesies, guinea fowls, little bucks. The estate is right in nature, and one can go for long walks among tall grass, and giraffes. Romy and Mario made sure we had a very relaxing time and Shirin and Sam made sure our kids were occupied on their playpark. We even got a ride in Ellie -- which is actually what we came for, don't tell them 😉 The overland campsite is practical and very cleverly designed, all in all: a 10 out of 10.
